Fantasy Football

The football season really kicks off tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to it. I actually bet Detroit to win and cover the spread in tomorrow's game (3 points). I'm not really a sports bettor, but I had some free money from one of the poker sites to burn. I figured the Lions should be able to score since they have two great wide receivers and a rebuilt running game. In addition, Atlanta is weak at the corners, has one legit pass rusher, and is weak up the middle with Grady Jackson being their only real defensive tackle and Lofton starting at MLB as a rookie. Not to mention they have a rookie quarterback, left tackle, and head coach, and it is Michael Turner's first real NFL game action. It seems like Detroit should win by at least 7, but I'm not a sports bettor at all. Wish me luck.

All of my fantasy drafts are complete. I was able to execute my strategy pretty well, but I felt like I left some value out there. In my first draft which took place two weekends ago, I took Steven Jackson with the 7th overall pick followed with Romo at 18 and Boldin at 31. Calvin Johnson went at 30. I wanted him extremely bad, but this was too early given what I expected everyone else to do.

I think my roster is reasonable, but I need a few things to work out for me to be a really, really good team.

1. I need Chris Johnson to emerge.
2. I need Marvin Harrison to have a reasonable year.
3. I need an injury prone Chris Perry to stay healthy.

Otherwise, I feel like I'm deep enough to navigate injuries and make a serious run at a championship.

In my other cash league, I don't think I did as well. There's a couple of good reasons for that.

1. It has 14 teams with 16 man rosters. We were scraping the bottom of the barrel by round 15.
2. It was live on Yahoo! That meant 5 people used the autopicker, and no one of substantial value could fall or else the autopicker would take them.

In this draft, I doubled up and took Steven Jackson with the 6th overall pick, and I followed that up with "Ben" at 23. That's too early for "Ben" you say? Perhaps, but Drew Brees went two picks earlier and I had him very close to Brees. I didn't want to just get by at quarterback.

I went on to select Colston at 30, and as a bonus, I was able to get Megatron (Calvin Johnson) at 51. It was Christmas in August!

Here's the complete roster. I feel like I'm razor thin, but everybody in this league is since there are 14 deep roster teams. I've got the highest projected point total in Yahoo! for week 1, but I'm still not very comfortable with this team.

Also, Defense is worth next to nothing in this Yahoo! league.
